Sybil Connolly

The Sybil Connolly project is a team project by which each pair will design and produce two garments for the one look, in response to our experience at the exhibition of her work at the Hunt Museum and in viewing the pieces up-close.

Myself and partner Valerie were both inspired by the capes in the exhibition so this is the basis of our look. For inspiration we are going to look at Georgian windows, stained glass an contemporary ones .. and take it from there!

My part in the design-production process will be the jumpsuit/one piece/dress and Valerie will take care of the cape/coat/over piece

London Market Research

TREND RESEARCH : ORIENTAL

After a brilliant trip to London, I've put together my market research on the trend for S/S 2013, ORIENTAL.

In the mass market, the oriental inspired trend was mainly seen in Primark, and H&M. While Next had window displays to fit the trend perfectly, their garments weren't as inspired as I had hoped! All in all, the mass market has definitely been charmed by the Orient.

Window displays at Next, Oxford Street.

The trend was visible in the middle market, somewhat in Topshop but massively evident in Zara.

The mass market was possibly the most influenced of the three. Everywhere from Selfridges to Liberty, Dover Street Markets and along Bond street had something to offer. Lanvin, Hermes, Alexander McQueen, Miu Miu, Etro, Phillip Lim, Stella McCartney among numerous others had a clear Oriental streak in their S/S '13 collections
